Praise God we survived the storms that raged through Missouri today. Our hearts are heavy and we are praying for all those who will be starting the new Year without a home or possibly a loved one because of the tornado's.
2010... a time of reflection. It's been a year with many trials and tribulations but it's been a year of blessing and overwhelming joy at the Lord's provision in our lives. It never ceases to amaze us how no matter what the circumstances we always have what we need, when we need it. Yes, we'er sinful at times and worry and whine about our wants but then we look at what we have, we feel truly humbled by how He meets our every need.
Times are tough, we don't know a single family that's not struggling in some way or another but each of them has continuously shared experience after experience of the Lord's timely provision in their lives. I see God caring for His children time and time again.
As midnight draws near I feel a little hesitant going into the new year. Although I know He is in control, there's a part of me that always wants to know the plan and is unsettled that He doesn't seem to think that's necessary. Will we be okay financially? Will our health be good? Will I do well teaching the boys this year? Will our van continue to be road worthy????????? So many unanswered questions, huge concerns... but I know whatever happens He will be there, helping us through it, teaching us, sanctifying us, refining us into what He intends for us to be... and that's good enough for me. With that thought I welcome 2011, excited to see what it will bring. I pray I will grow to be a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt & friend. That we will be prosperous spiritually and be a blessing to others.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!!!
What a glorious morning! We woke up to about 5 inches of snow and it's still coming down = ) The chickens have yet to brave leaving their coop!
I made breakfast for my guys, toasted homemade bread with a fried egg and a slice of ham & cheese to top it off. We will most likely open our gifts to each other today as we have to travel to St. Louis tomorrow for Christmas with my family.
We really kept the gifts to a minimum this year. It's been something our family has collectively felt led to do. The more we grow in our walk with the Lord the more we we are blessed by the true meaning of Christmas. Fortunately we were never completely sucked into the whole "commercial Christmas" and our children have never been focused solely on the presents. In fact we're probably one of the few parents in the world that have kids that say they don't really want anything for Christmas.
I know Christmas will be different in their households someday, they know more then we did when we had them. Santa will fill a slight capacity if any, and Christ will be the center of this season for them.
Merry Christmas and a properous New Year!

Thoughts to ponder...
I was thinking about Christmas today and feeling all the wonder one starts to feel when you think about the beauty of God's gift to us through his son. It made me think about waiting, and how the people that lived before Jesus time must have had days they stressed out thinking will the Messiah ever come... praying that it would be soon.
Here we are some 2000 years later waiting... wondering when will He come back? Or maybe closer to the truth would be are we or our loved ones ready for His return? The word says...
1 Thessalonians 5
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:
5 for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;
6 so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.
I know my dear friends that many of you are praying over loved ones who are hard of heart and that have not recieved Jesus. Do not give up, we do not know God's timing and the word promises that prayers of the righteous will be heard and the words of the Lord will not return void.
1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
Isaiah 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
Be diligent not only in your own walk but in sharing Him with others. Someone once said the life of a Christian may be the only Bible an unsaved person ever reads, what do our lives reflect? What spills out when circumstances aren't the best? The word says fruits of the spirit should pour out...
Galatians 5:26 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
Wow, that's worth repeating...
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
A huge responsibility that requires a lot of prayer and an impossible command if we allow ourselves to drift very far from Him.

yummmmmmmmmmm! Anise Cookies
I know what most of you are thinking, and all I can say is it's a German thing. We made our annual trip into St. Louis for my once a year Christmas treat... Anise cookies! My hubby is so good to me = ) McArthur's Bakery always has them this time of year, you can't find them out in the sticks where we live. This year however they were still expensive as all get out but they also had less in the container!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaah!!! I'm finally fed up enough to figure out how to bake my own! So today I played with a recipe that was not as soft and pretty as the McArthur ones but for what their charging they'll work. There are some other involved recipes that I will mess with later but this one will work for now. Christmas is twelve days away and I am completely unmotivated about baking... sigh... I know I have to dig deep and get started soon though. Especially since that IS our gift giving this year. There's so much to do the next week or so and I just want to stay home and quietly let the time slip by with my family sipping hot tea and crunching on my new found Anise cookie recipe. I found a neat piece on the internet while looking for a grape jelly recipe, here it is.....
Fifteen Things God Won't Ask - Author Unknown
God won't ask what kind of car you drove, but will ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation.
God won't ask the square footage of your house, but will ask how many people you welcomed into your home.
God won't ask about the fancy clothes you had in your closet, but will ask how many of those clothes helped the needy.
God won't ask about your social status, but will ask what kind of class you displayed.
God won't ask how many material possessions you had, but will ask if they dictated your life.
God won't ask what your highest salary was, but will ask if you compromised your character to obtain that salary.
God won't ask how much overtime you worked, but will ask if you worked overtime for your family and loved ones.
God won't ask how many promotions you received, but will ask how you promoted others.
God won't ask what your job title was, but will ask if you reformed your job to the best of your ability.
God won't ask what you did to help yourself, but will ask what you did to help others.
God won't ask how many friends you had, but will ask how many people to whom you were a true friend.
God won't ask what you did to protect your rights, but will ask what you did to protect the rights of others.
God won't ask in what neighborhood you lived, but will ask how you treated your neighbors.
God won't ask about the color of your skin, but will ask about the content of your character.
God won't ask how many times your deeds matched your words, but will ask how many times they didn't.

Homeschooling a magnificent crucible
"Homeschooling is this magnificent crucible, to reveal impurities and sinfulness and brokenness. It keeps us on our knees. Homeschooling often hurts and disappoints. You cry and wonder if you are insane to try to educate these children, to disciple these little hearts, while laundering, cooking, cleaning, managing a household, and still being a wife, a sister, a daughter, a missionary in your community, a servant to Christ and in your faith community. And He smiles and says that He walks with you, has grand and glorious purposes, and He understands radical and crazy!"

Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You, asking that You deliver me from all pride and anger. I truly want to be like Jesus, who was meek and lowly. Father, help me to remain humble and always be willing to assume the place of a servant. May I always be sensitive to the needs of others and look for ways to help them. I am reminded in Your Word that we are told, by love, we are to serve one another. Fill me with Your love, so that I might love those around me and serve them as You would. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

borrowed idea from a friend's blog
A glimpse at my day... up early having my morning cup of joe. Laundry's started, boys are doing chores and we'll be starting school soon.
I am thinking... I am so BLESSED to be home serving my family, spending time with them doing all the day to day things that most take for granted. The boys and I stood this morning in the dark watching the sun rise together, God is awesome!
I am feeling... Content, at peace and completely utterly in love with my life as wife to a wonderful man and mother to boys who are my reward from God.
I am hearing... Hens making noise as their just let out of the coop in the morning, crickets chirrping from one of the pet tanks in the school room, the wash machine filling for it's first load and the boys talking.
I am cooking... Making homemade bread today, that gives me rock star statis in my home = )
I am cleaning... dishes and kitchen counters.
I am teaching... everything (except algebra!)
Outside my window... We've just seen a beautiful sunrise!
In my heart... I know God is truly in control and that He loves me deeply.
I am making... Dried flower picture frames and other homemade Christmas gifts (shhhhhh!)
Verse for today... “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives” - 2 Peter 3:10-11
How will I use today, even within these four walls of my home? I will be the kind of woman that God wants me to be. How will I touch these hearts and train these young lives to live for His kingdom, leaning on Jesus!!!
