Uhhggg! I don't know how pioneer women did it! I spent HOURS de-seeding a one gallon ziplock bag of last years (nthawed) Persimmons this morning for about 2 quarts of pulp = (
I still have another gallon bag to do! I've also put my first "test batch" of whole eggs into the dehydrator. Hoping to vacumm seal a lot of that eventually.
Hubby planted 1 tire of radishes, 2 tires of carrots and out first tire of potato's yesterday with the boy's help. After all that menial labor I think they were liking math and their school work much better = ) He has all our other seeds planted in their little green house's for sprouting until they can go outside.
They got the T-poles put into the straw bales so they ready for their veggie climbing fence to go up now and the soaker hoses we bought with all the little holes in them. Seeing as it was in the 30's last night it could be awhile.
Sometime soon I will need to do something with the gallons of blackberries we picked last year before this summer's crop are ready to harvest. I know that seems far away but the way time moves around here it will be here before we know it.
We HAVE to get the brooder pen finished SOON! Baby pullets are coming near the end of April and I've learned over the last few years that trying to keep hens and pullets separate in the same space, is a PAIN IN THE BUTT!!! They get their own "house" this year. Especially since we have 40 ordered.
Everything about learning "to live off the land" and do "small farming" is soooo time consuming! I can't imagine "real farming" on a large scale and especially done without modern tools.
I guess it the satisfaction in honing those skills and knowing if there's a natural disaster or economic colapse that you can care for your family. Without crash coursing it, in the middle of trouble. It's good to be independent and self relient, that what keeps people like us going. Knowing we need to use the talent and gifts God gave us to be "in the world but not of the world."
We'll document out experiences here... straw bale gardening, dehydrating, hunting, homeschooling ect. Join us for that journey and feel free to share yours too.
God Bless

Deuteronomy 6:7 "And you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up."
