We ignored the snow storm warnings and set off for St. Louis to celebrate Grandpa's birthday. It was a beautiful day with just a few inches of snow on the ground. Grandma made her homemade spaghetti and a special ordered McArthur's cake, isn't it beautiful! We played games and visited all afternoon. We broke in Grandma's new scrapbooking tool a Crickut which was way cool! Keegan played Happy birthday on the piano and his cousin Katelyn played it on the flute so that made it pretty special for Grandpa. It was starting to snow around 5pm so we thought we should probably leave for home. Well we had whiteout conditions all the way home from St. Louis. The normal hour and a half drive home took 4 hours. We only got about 5/6 inches but nothing was plowed at all and we had 2 inches of sleet under it. When we got on hwy 19 from Cuba to Steelville there was a car stopped in the middle of the two lane Hwy and the lady was standing next to it which is soooooooo dangerous. We pulled up to help and she was freaking out about driving in the snow in her dumpy car with bad windshield wipers so she just stopped and got out! My hubby told her to get back in her car and follow him because she wouldn't leave her car. He scraped her windshield and we had to do about 5 miles an hour all the way to Steelville so we wouldn't lose her. We kept having to stop so hubby could go scrape her windshield. If she weren't so scared he probably would have beat her for being out. Then we got through Steelville and we come across another vehicle off a really steep embankment and we had to sit while two tow trucks blocked the road while pulling it out. They had to call a plow to plow the steep hill it was on and that probably took a half hour or more. It was a nightmare and I probably have white hair now and arthritic knuckles from gripping my seat so hard. My hubby was so calm all the way home and handled it ALL so well. If he was scared he never let on and I was extremely proud of his abilities! Now I must go have coffee.
