A quick update!

Nathaniel's Kona Guitar

Well this is about what our new baby chicks will look like all grown if we can keep them safe long enough!

We started out with 30 and had a 5ft black snake come visiting while we were gone and strangle 8 of them. He had about 3 swallowed when we found him. Charlie took him wayyyyyy down the road and released him much to Nathaniel's disappointment. He wanted to keep it of course.

So we bought 20 more from our friends the Estep's and are currently keeping watch over 42 baby pullets. We hope to eventually turn this into a part time income, selling eggs and hatchlings. I'm still trying to decide if I want to learn butchering. I have old timers willing to teach me but it seems a lot of work, we'll see.

So we are pricing more fencing, T-poles, material to expand the coop and incubator's... all of which have significantly increased in price since we started raising chickens 5 years ago. Charles's has been watching youtube video's on "chicken pluckers" which I have to say are kind of hilarious.

After Nathaniel's guitar lessons we spent Saturday afternoon visiting the Estep's farm while the men worked on their ice maker. We buy our luscious raw milk from them and LOVE it. We got to meet the calf they named after Keegan for his birthday and see all 300+ of their baby chickens. It was a beautiful day. Melissa showed me the huge Lilac bush she discovered on their property while the children played in their creek.

Everyone's doing fine down on our little farm, the boy's are growing like weeds. Charles planted a little garden and hopefully all the rain will make it grow like weeds too! We hope to have a real garden next year. We'll pay our retired neighbor to come down with his tractor this Fall and till up the field we have picked out. We're thinking ahead of all the things we can take to the Farmer's Market next year! I'm going to learn to can this summer and have already started investing in jars and made pantry space in the spare bedroom. The boys are wanting to seriously "grow" a home based business to earn an income and I really like the idea of something we can do together as a family like everything else we do. Nathaniel has "car money" on the brain now since he's less then 2 years away from needing one. Keegan's a saver by nature and dosen't want to waste time getting ready himself.

Well my mountain of laundry is calling to me....... the never ending, always growing pile.

God bless!
The Corbett family
